Hi Courtney,

Thanks for the information. Looks like you're right. CEO pay is only 325 to 1 now. That's better. But still way off track from what it should trend if it followed the same pace as worker pay increase.

From your link:

Meanwhile, the most recent ratio from the Institute for Policy Studies is also smaller -- for 2010, it was 325 to 1. In previous years the ratio on two occasions has exceeded 475 to 1 -- to be specific, 516 to 1 in 1999 and 525 to 1 in 2000.

Oh, if having spent one-half hour/day learning about inverse funds, futures, options and commodities rather than long only positions, many employees would have gained quite a bit over the last decade. Equally, maintining understating of housing unaffordability ratios would have mitigated, not prevented, the house price bubble.

Here we have tremendous long run free info available yet generally ignored, even by the major rating agencies and hedgies dependent upon gaussian copula centered models and CDS.

If not ignorance perhaps intent.

Well, aren't U.S. based CEOs at least 475 times more intelligent and organized sufficiently to have obtained trilliions of dollars of subsidies to be payed by present and future working class labor.through higher overall taxes, greater austeriity and labor intensity.

In the same vein, this process began decades ago and labor unioms, rather than countering through internationalizing, began their process of breakdown, largly because most union bosses had partnered with upper executives..

Furthermore tne confluence of major political parties

I agree...they should have taken customer loyalty into consideration. Their price hikes were sudden and unreasonable - practically doubled! Current customers should have been grandfathered at a lower rate. Netflix wasn't considerate of their customers, so I see no reason to stick with them if something more appealing comes along. Sprint is ending unlimited data, so who can afford streaming now anyway? This may be the end of the smart phone, too.

Two things-
1) can we make it a balanced budget over a period of time? (Like 10 years or something). It seems pretty clear that governments should save during good times, and deficit spend during bad times to balance out the business cycle. The problem is our government likes to deficit spend in both good and bad times.
2) Everyone already pays taxes. We pay sales taxes on everything we buy. But tax reform would be great. It could be a lot simpler. For example, what if all kinds of income were taxed the same, and all kinds of spending were treated the same from a tax perspective. It would be so much simpler.

I agree. Everyone should be chipping in a little. Not paying any taxes is not fair to everyone. However, I'm also sensitive to people who need help, and I think we need to take a real good look at our tax system and consider how we can make it a more even ballpark without absolutely destroying low income families and individuals. Can anyone really live on minimum wage? Approximately $15,000 per year, 40 hours a week, no vacation. On the other hand, I can only imagine what would happen with just the 50% contributing 1%, I bet it'd be significant. It'd also reduce the burden on everyone and probably balance the budget.

I think also you need to get most of the 50% that doesn't currently pay taxes to get some "skin in the game" and start contributing. Right now the upper 50% tax income is being distributed to the lower 50%. Also need to do away with many of the subsidies the gov't gives to industries that seem to be doing fine on their own (oil and agriculture) or wouldn't survive w/o them such as ethanol. I think mostly though we need everyone involved and right now only half of us are.

Absolutely. I find it funny that they are fighting about removing the tax breaks and their ability to hurt the middle and lower tiers. After all, when Bush was pushing for the tax breaks, Democrats said they were only tax breaks for the wealthy. So, remove them all now. If no one but the wealthy received anything noticable, the same will be true with the reverse.

I think your math is correct but your conclusion is off...by your figures a national sales tax would be approximately 50% of our current tax rate b/c there is twice as much to tax. Thus, those if the income tax rate was 10% the sales tax rate could be lowered to 5%

Hi April, not at the moment...I don't actively update my blog, although I'd like to. (I've been saying that for the past 2 years now) Thanks for asking though.

Hi, I'm not sure if we've corresponded but I'm interested in possibly working together. You are a great fit for an offer we have and your site is relevant regarding financial investments. Hopefully we could do something together where we pay you per lead you send our way?

Would love to hear back.
Sincerely, April Hartmeister

I got a little confused by the creditboards discussion. Was it a hard pull? I think that would be the only reason for me not to do this.
