Friday! Update: 1000 Spams and Counting, Sad PF Blogger, and Bullying Special 09.15.2006

I can’t believe how much spam I’ve been getting recently!  1,002 at present count.  Thank goodness I don’t have to manually delete a majority, and I’ve been finding only a small amount has actually been real comments.  I apologize if you’ve been a victim of my spam filter.

This week, I’d like to focus on the folks behind the blogging, if you haven’t seen this post from Tired But Happy, check it out.  She’s “hit a lull,” and I can relate.  Blogging is great, but like anything in life, sometimes interest is lost, we don’t have enough time to keep it up, etc.  Feedback and comments make all the difference, so head on over, and say hello.

Friday! Update: Stirfry Donkeys Succeed Podcasting How To Be Poor Diamond Highlights 09.01.2006

As much as I enjoy travelling, I can’t wait until I’m back in my normal routine…two trips in one month is a little too much for me, Brownie would argue otherwise since he’s loving his stay at doggie day care.  The life of a dog I tell ya!

Please vote in my latest two polls…I’ll be posting up an analysis soon, so get your votes in!

Anyway, it’s Labor day weekend for those of us in the States…For those in other countries, too bad!  :)  Europeans get way too much vacation anyway.  lol.  Alright, on to the posts…

Friday! Update: 2 Must-Do Tips For Saving, an Inspiring Comment, and more!

Hello there!  It’s Friday!  Means no work tomorrow (hopefully)!  Woohoo!  :D

I wanted to say thanks to JLP over at AllFinancialMatters for making me his blog of the week.  Also, if you haven’t already, please vote on my two polls:  “Site Too Busy?” and “Spend 50k or Invest 25k?”  I’ll be posting up an analysis in the next few days.  For those that have voted, a big thanks!

On to the posts of interest…

First, over at 1stMillionat33, check out his two must do money saving tips

After you’re done looking at that, head on over to SingleMa’s site and read this inspirational comment left by Anonymous

Then, read a write up that LAMoneyGuy has @ It’s Just Money on reverse mortgages, which might be a great option to living it up in the golden years.

Are you a “SMART” Investor or “Average” person @ Millionaire in Progress?

Finally, Divorce to Freedom gets paid via PayPerPost…$20.01.  Not bad for 3 posts.

Have a great, safe weekend everyone!

Friday! Update: 61 Comments, College is CHEAP, Walking Away, and Of Course…The Housing Bubble

Yes! For many of us US citizens, the long weekend awaits! For those not in the US, hey why don’t you celebrate with us! Take the long weekend, tell them Freedumb said so.

So let’s recap the week…How many savings accounts are too many? It’s pretty hard to slip any inaccurate info by the PF Blogging community. Sorry for the slip up with savings accounts, but I did clarify. If you have a dog, plan on getting a dog, be sure to read my story about Brownie and his poop. It’s not just about poop. I hate Tip Jars, don’t you? Finally, read the dumb perspective on the housing bubble.

Now on to the good stuff…

LAMoneyGuy suggests we get our “lazy butts up, and start running.” I will! As soon as Brownie turns 1.5 years old. :) I have been walking though.

Jonathan argues college can be had on the cheap. It’s generated a ton of dialog.

This is an interesting one by Keith @ Housing Panic. This post has no words, just one image and at this moment 61 comments!

Congrats to 2million for having the kahonas to walk away from a closing.

Be sure to watch your teens this weekend! They could be texting “Happy 4th” to a few hundred people as SingleMa can attest to.

Have a safe and awesome weekend everyone!

Friday! Update: UHNWI, Reality, a Circus, and Prosper.com Vs. ING…

When was the last time I posted my Friday! Update? Sorry, I’m not one for routine…I’m very random if you haven’t noticed already. That doesn’t mean through the course of my “Friday! Update” vacation, I didn’t find some great posts…

If you haven’t read my post on Bullying, please check it out. Also, I’ve posted my salary…sort of…

LAMoneyGuy over at It’s Just Money digs deep into the idea of Market Timing. The amount of detail and data that backs his argument is intriguing.

Punny Money talks about the 10 greatest money saving inventions ever. It’s a great read…

Nothing like mother - daughter bonding at the circus…And if SingleMa is writing the post, you know it’s going to be exciting…Check it out.

If you’ve ever wondered, “Does Prosper.com make sense?” Then you’ll want to check out this post by John @ MBH…Calculation Prosper.com vs. ING.

With everything that goes on in PF Blogging, real people exist behind each and every blogger deals with much more than just money, and it’s called life. Law’s Finance asks a question that many of us ask ourselves everyday…How to find time

And finally, nothing like starting the weekend just imagining what it must be like to be an ultra-high-net-worth-individual…30+ million dollars…oh the pain. Read about how long it will take TraineeInvestor @ A Private Portfolio to accomplish this goal.

Have a great weekend!

Friday! Update: The $1k Breakdown, College, Blogger type…05.12.2006

Another week finished. Ah what an interesting week…I didn’t write about it, but I did have a financial breakdown this week. It was a financial breakdown of around $1,000. I bought somethings that I don’t need. I haven’t done it in awhile, but that’s no excuse. I’ll write more about what those were in my next Net Worth update. I will say this though, I am not having buyer’s remorse, so it is something that I’ve wanted for sometime now, and I just decided to go for it.

As far as smoking goes, I’m still off the cigs! 69 days and $155.25 richer!

I just thought I’d do some looking into college-related posts on people’s blogs. I found quite a few!

You’ve probably seen Mighty Bargain Hunter’s post on getting over-educated, if there is such a thing…

But going into paying for college, Blogging Away Debt writes about why her son will not have his college education bill paid in full. Makingourway takes the opposing perspective on paying for their kids college education.

Speaking of paying, Young and Broke talks about how student loans put her life on hold.

Then there are those in college right now. Take a look at CollegeGrad’s mid-20 something crisis.

And if you’re just not interested in college at all, John writes about City Girl’s decision to go back is admirable.

Not college related, but interesting…mOOm writes about the types of PF bloggers out there. I guess I’d categorize myself as a 1 and 3.

Well, have a great weekend everyone, including you college students! I think a majority of college finals are over right?

Friday! Update: Boys Day, Bay Area House Hunting, Smoking, and the Weight Challenge…05.05.2006

Happy Children’s Day! In Japan, this is a big celebration. Boy’s Day is on May 5, and Girl’s Day is on March 3.

Well, I’m happy to say I am still off the cigarettes! My fellow blogger Financial Train Wreck is on track. He just got off the patch, so go give him some comments to encourage him and his wife.

Thinking of buying a place? I know I am…I just got pre-qualified. I’m not going to buy anything for a year though, but I just wanted to see what would my “range.” Anyway, check out City Girl’s series on buying a place in the Bay Area: Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3.

LAMoneyGuy has a bet going on between him and his fiancee…go cheer them both on! Hey Ms. LAMoneyGuy keep him honest cuz if he hits his goal, I owe him a beer.

That’s it for me…this week has been a little light on the blogging. Work has been extremely busy. Until next time, have a great weekend!

Friday! Update: Soul For Sale, AI, and Pet Insurance 04.28.2006

Woot $65 bonus cash has been funded to my Sharebuilder account. I must say, I’ve been happily impressed with Sharebuilder, especially with the email notifications they provide throughout the process of opening your account. Everytime I had a question, like, “hmm, I wonder if I qualified for the Costco $65 bonus?” I would get an email shortly after saying, “You’re qualified and will be credited $65.” Nice. Thanks to Jonathan @ MyMoneyBlog for the introduction to Sharebuilder.

Just to recap this week, Brownie has been insured. Vet costs for our furry, and sometimes non-furry, friends can add up quickly. It gives me peace of mind that I can give Brownie the best care regardless of my financial situation at the moment.

I’m still smoke free! You know, I’m starting to realize that certain things that I do bring the urge back…for example, just the other day I went fishing…The urge to smoke was stronger than ever! I didn’t, but still. Worse my friend and I have this thing, every fish we catch, means one cig. We need a new “thing,” and I guess I have to force my mind to dissociate fishing with smoking.

I’m also looking to purchase a home in a year or so…I found City Girl wrote up a great post on soul searching to figure out why you want a house. It’s a great read, check it out!

Speaking of houses, congrats to fivecentnickel and SingleMa on their home purchases!

John @ Mighty Bargain Hunter has a great discussion on education. It’s important to think about your education and what you expect to get from it. Just like buying a house, I believe you really need to ask yourself why you want to get a degree in abc field. Is it the money? Is it the glamour? Or something else? It’s not like you want to spend 4 years of your life getting a degree only to realize you don’t like it. Of course, each journey we take is our own unique journey, but you probably don’t want to travel down the same path too many times ;). Especially since it’s not only time but hardwork and money! Makingourway discusses the money part and who he feels should pay. One day I hope to go back to school.

Since it’s the weekend, I don’t want to leave you thinking about something as serious as education or the 990 posts on PFBlogs.org about gas prices since a little pain does us good, rather I want to leave you with an important question to ponder about “Why is American Idol so popular?” Hah. And buy him a beer while you’re there! That’s funny.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Friday! Update: Home Tax Break, Smoking, and Panhandling 04.21.2006

I like to reflect on my own posts every so often, and I realize how lucky I am to be in the position I am. Wow, that sounded snooty…I don’t mean it like that. Read on. At the same time, I realize that many bloggers post while trying to get out of debt, and then many bloggers are those that are doing really, really well. I try my best not to alienate anyone. We all, well most of us hopefully, have the same goal, that is to achieve financial freedom…how we get there is our own unique journey. Even this guy has the same idea…being able to stand on the street and smile is amazing and inspiring. Reading this post from Make Love, Not Debt inspired me too. Congratulations!

About my smoking, well, 48 days!!!! WOOHOO! $108.00 saved! I’ll admit, I did have a smoke this past weekend, but it wasn’t my pack…I know, one slip up, and it could lead me right back to where I was before.

I’m starting the process of purchasing a home, although I’m probably not going to become very serious until next year. I ran across a post that shed an interesting perspective on the tax advantages of home ownership. It’s something I was curious about for some time…take a look, it’s got good details. Which reminds, me congrats to SingleMa too and her home purchase!

Well, have an awesome weekend everyone!
