Net Worth 12.2006 [+$16,972.50,+7.26%]

It’s odd, during the past few months, since work sucked so badly, I lost all interest in finances and life in general. I just didn’t care. If I liked alcohol, I could easily imagine sucking it up until I lost all sense of life. Pretty depressing huh? Well, that’s really what things felt like.

I skipped my November net worth analysis, and I am just catching up with my December one. So the % increase is really skewed because it’s a comparison of 2 months ago vs today. It’s pretty cool that I can declare my net worth is a “quarter million dollars.”

The future is questionable, can I sustain a positive net worth growth? I know I won’t be able to hit 5 digit monthly increases, or even possibly, 4 digit monthly increases. Trust me, the thought of that hurts, but the fact that I can put my daily grind of my hated job behind me over weighs the financial considerations.

No matter how many times the realization that I won’t be making as much money as before hurts, I always fall back on the thought that I no longer have to deal with the crap making that money brought me. In the end, I would not be able to put up with it for much longer even if I decided to try.

So on that note, my December net worth hit $250k, and it feels, eh the same as before I hit it, honestly. I’m not sure what the future holds, but once I can recapture that drive and motivation I so sorely miss, I believe I can get back on track financially.

I do know that tracking my expenses and knowing my financial path is now even more critical since my income has just taken a big decrease. Interesting times I tell ya. I do look forward to catching up and trying to get my life back in order.

I just resigned my job too, I was in a very rough patch and in the end I took a pretty sizeable cut in pay to get out. I’m sure you’ll get your drive back. Just knowing that I won’t have to go to the same office I used to is uplifting enough for me!

You seem like on a pretty good footing right now. You’ve got solid assets and it’s best to regroup and set your priorities for work straight.

    :-)

I don’t know if anyone has asked, but why are you holding so much cash? Does that have anything to do with a house downpayment? (I think you were looking at one point.) Is it really cash, or cash equivalents? (or easily liquidable CD’s?

    Matt, You speak the truth!

Mapgirl, I’ve been asked before, but I definitely don’t mind, because it is something I need to look at more. I’ve been really “nervous” about sticking my money into the market because I haven’t done my homework on the market and I’m just conservative like that. On top of that, 5% returns on cash ain’t that bad. I did my part by switching my funds in my 401k to an “aggresive” fund which boosted my 401k earnings for this year by 7% or so…

Actually, you’re right about the house fund too…something I was planning on this summer…but now that’s on the back burner for obvious reasons.

Now that I’m going to be unemployed for a bit, I’ll study the market more and put some money into stocks.

I’m jealous (sarcasm) – just want to be without work right now. Voice in head is screaming “there are people out of work, be happy you have work”. How can shut that voice up.

    LOL!

I am soooooo happy you are back blogging though. To bad about the employment, but I am sure the best is yet to come!
