Bogleheads Review: Chapter 21 – Insuring Your Assets

26 Oct

Well who woulda thunk it. Freedumb doing a book review. That’s like a vegan eating meat. Well, okay, not really, but I haven’t picked up a book book since college.

When I was asked by JLP if I was interested in covering a chapter for his October Project, I was a little hesitant because I didn’t know if I could really finish the book and write a review. Well, I was right. I didn’t finish it, but I got really close, and I plan to continue reading the rest of it shortly. It’s just been a crazy month, but hey I finished my chapter…and quite a few more.

On to the review.

Changing Up My Links

23 Oct

I’ve decided to alter my links in the right sidebar.  The “Great PF Blogs” section shows PF Bloggers who have helped contribute so much to my site by commenting.  These fellow PF Bloggers have contributed over 20 comments each!  So, I’m creating a section dedicated just to them.  As more pass this threshold, I’ll gladly add you to this section.  I hope it grows!

Then when “Great PF Blogs” gets past 20 links, I’ll create another section called “Great Great PF Blogs” where folks who have commented over x number of times get added, and so on!  Great Great Great.

The “More Great PF Blogs” section contains links to bloggers limited to 30 at a time, and displayed in random order.  To be added, just contact me. Great :) .

President Freedumb: What One PF Blogger Would Do as the Leader of the USA

23 Oct

With elections around the corner, I just thought I’d share my agenda if I were running for president.  Yeah, the presidency isn’t on the line this election, but with all the news surrounding our current president, I just thought I’d share.  Feel free to write your own and leave a link in the comments!

NFL Picks: Week 7 and Result Week 5

21 Oct

Yes, I know I skipped week 6, and it’s not because I did so bad in week 5.  I just haven’t had time.

Week 5 was bad.  2 win, 4 losses!  Brings my current record to:  17 wins, 12 losses, 1 ties.  What really stinks is my not-dumb pick lost, by .5!  Sorry, my not-dumb record:  2 wins, 1 loss, 1 tie.

Week 7 should be interesting.  I’m not picking against the Chargers anymore.  In fact, I’m picking them this week.  Let’s see how I do!

I’ve Decided. Screw Work. Fire Me.

18 Oct

Note:  I published, removed, published, remove this post because it could easily be miscontrued as being unappreciative of the fact that I have a job, but in all honesty, it’s how I feel, so ultimately I decided to publish.  I am grateful I can work and have a job, but at the same time, I need to weigh what’s more important.  I don’t have a family to feed, and so I believe I have the luxury of being able to determine what I want to do at this point in my life.  In no way do I believe I would pursue the same route had I had people depending on me.  I know many have worked hard to just find a job, and so I want to make sure my readers understand, I’m not taking this lightly.  It’s just how I feel…

I’m going to do my part.  Finish up what I can.

Yes, I feel bad I’m not going “above and beyond” to help out, which I’ve done for my entire career…6 years now.  Yes, I feel bad that I’m taking advantage of my employer, sort of.  Yes, I feel bad.  And I think I’m going to feel that way until everything is said and done.  But honestly, I’ve given my employer adequate notice that I just don’t like support.  I’ve told them many times, and if my immediate performance is not a “hint,” I don’t know what is.  I think I need to find something where I don’t have customers.

Easy Emergency Preparedness On the Cheap

18 Oct

I’m sure you’ve heard by now, Hawaii had its biggest earthquake to happen in the last 20 years this past weekend.  If you haven’t click here.  Shortly after the earthquake, the power went out.  Traffic ensued, family bbqs started, and long lines at grocery stores and gas stations followed.  So after this experience, thought I’d share some things I did that helped prepare…I didn’t even realize they would help actually, I just did some of them for some odd reason…
