Watch As a Cricket Outruns Student Debt…or Your Windshield.

25 Sep

Cashcricket.comI don’t have a blog of the week or spotlight posts, but I really do like many of the blogs out there.  I just wish I had more time.  Last week I got an email from Jiminy (not his real name), and he told me about his blog.  It was a great email…I really enjoyed it, so I asked him for a post that I could feature on my blog.  I encourage anyone who wants me to do the same for their blogs to send me an email.  I can’t promise you instant response, but I will try my best.

Jiminy’s blog is Cashcricket.com.  I really like the design and layout of the site…It’s refreshing.  His email to me was a good one, and I’d like to share a portion of it with all of you because, well, it’s a good read!

{a little about Jiminy}

  • I am a 30 year husband and dad of 2 lovely daughters.
  • I am an Architect (Designer of buildings – not data systems)
  • I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture
  • I have a Masters of Architecture degree

{a little about his experiences in finance}

I have learned mostly about money via the “what not to do circuit” from my family.  My greatest financial accomplishment thus far was paying off a $16,000 credit card in 2 months (while finishing grad school on an income of -$1,000/month).  Some of my financial influences are, but not limited to.  My Grandfather, a very generous and successful man in his own right, My father, whom used to make almost 200K/year in the early 90’s (now manages a bar), and some of the standards: Warren Buffet, Jim Collins, Robert T. Kiyosaki, Jim Cramer, and Dave Ramsey to name a few.  The purpose of the site is to teach people to be better with the assets they have and to make more money to give away.  Architecture pays the bills (barely), but my wife and I love to give money away.  We have a lot of friends that volunteer for a living and we love to support them financially.

Read more about Jiminy on his about page.  He suggested that I take a look at his post called “Outrunning Student Debt.”  In his post he says,

$82,000 dollars later, and a bill of about $425/month for the next 24 years here I am.  My goal and theory is that I can outrun my student debt in less than 10 years.

After reading his entire post, I really felt like running along with him.  Check Jiminy’s site out!  I think you’ll enjoy…And don’t forget to subscribe to his RSS feed while you’re there!  Good luck Jiminy!  Blog on.
