NFL Pick: Miami @ Pittsburgh & Fantasy Recommendations

07 Sep

The NFL season is kicking off tonight!  In my attempt to somehow find a way to incorporate my fascination with football and my personal finance blog, I’m going to post picks from NFL games…I’ll keep a log of my record so you can hold me accountable.

Miami @ Pittsburgh (-1)
With spread:  Pittsburgh
Straight up:  Pittsburgh

Analysis

Dolphins are a much better team than they were last year, in my opinion.  Culpepper is an underrated QB that never quite fit the system with the Vikings.  I think he’ll be an above average QB in Miami, maybe even top 5.  But I still like Pittsburgh.  Their core is still the same.  Final score?  Pittsburgh 17 – Miami 10.

I’m just hoping I can go 50-50 this season!

Fantasy Football Recommendations

Don’t expect any huge stats from this game.  So the number of players I’d recommend is extremely short.  In fact, only one player I’d strongly recommend…Ben is out.  Charlie Batch is in…things get interesting.  I still go with Pitt.  Batch has had some time to get adjusted.

Pittsburgh
Hines Ward – Expect him to be on the receiving end, 80yds, 1td.
Ben Roethlesberger – Should put up average numbers, probably around 190yds, 1td.

Miami
Daunte Culpepper – Will be a defining game for him…I’m not sure how he’ll do, but I’d lean towards him doing average.  Similar in stats to Ben.

Good luck!
