Financial Freedumb and Brownie

Here’s the analysis to my poll, “On the First Date, Who Pays?“  To be frank (Not the FSA), I’m shocked!  I was expecting death threats in my inbox, comments to end myself, and angry women at my doorstep (that would’ve been interesting), but I guess the question isn’t as earth shattering as I expected.  Phew!  I thought the “Man” option would have been a slam dunk as the majority vote.  I voted for it myself.  Credit SingleMa for bringing up the thought.

It seems most of the male audience decided to remain out of the discussion, except for myself and Jay…and with good reason…at least I think so.

So the current tally of votes:

Man – 47%
Woman – 0%
Split Evenly – 14%
Whoever requested – 39%

S/100/30 says:  “It’s interesting how much this varies by social circle. Most of my female friends would be insulted if a guy tried to pay for a first date!”

But Single Ma says, “When I date, the man is paying. No doubt, ’nuff said! I can hold my own, but on a first day, he needs to man up.”

It’s no wonder why we males get so frustrated.    Exception:  Jay…

I do like what D says, “Rule of thumb, don’t except unless you can pay for yourself, no matter. Be prepared to pay your 1/2 or try to steer them to a cheaper date.”

What I’ve got out of all of this, grab the bill, watch the reaction of the lady (does she reach for the wallet?  does she look like she doesn’t even see the bill?), and then determine if paying is appropriate or splitting 50/50 would be better.
