Had I Done My Asset Reallocation, How Would I Be Doing?

23 Aug

About 4 months ago, I was thinking about reallocation my assets, shifting most of my cash into stocks and bonds.

In most cases, when I do something, you should probably do the exact opposite.  Does it hold true this time?  Luckily, thanks for blogging, I recorded my potential reallocation, and I can compare…What if?  What if I had reallocated…where would my portfolio be positioned today?

Originally, I had posted My Asset Reallocation v3.0.  It consisted of stocks where I felt the following parameters were favorable to what I like in companies/stocks:

- Near 52wk low?
- Chart indicates flat performance or down pattern?
- Dividend?
- Comparison to competitors in same industry?
- Company outlook?
- Management?
- Aggressive compared to competitors in industry?

So after asking myself those questions, I can out with the following stocks.  Included in the following table is the gain had I purchased 100 shares of each stock on May 1, 2006.

As you can see, I would’ve gained, I mean lost a whooping 0.51%.  Tack on commission fees, and the percentage would have slightly increased.  But what kills me is that JNJ, my stock pick for that period, increased over 10%!  I guess right now, I’m happy that my portfolio is happily gaining 5% in interest (minus taxes) vs. at -0.51%.  And considering today’s stock performance…I’d be down even more.
