This post is inspired by problogger.net and his group writing project on ’LISTS’
I wanted to find a topic that I think would be beneficial to my readers, yet at the same time not just a rehash of old topics with at least some new content, so I decided Brownie’s life lessons on money would be appropriate. I hope my posts will help a fellow dog owner out there.
Poop. Who’d thunk a lesson on money would be inspired by severe diahrrea, but it has. Check it out. In the post I talk about how much to feed, dog parks, good and bad treats, food, crate training, and more!- Obedience classes. How to find a good, generally cheaper obedience class for Fido. Expensive does not always mean better.
- Doggie Home Remedies. Going to the vet can be an expensive trip. You, as a dog owner, are always the ones to make the call on when it’s appropriate. However, there are certain situations when home remedies are just as good as the $$$ alternative. Here’s my post on some doggie home remedies.
- Considering pet insurance? I’m curious if you have any feedback on this one. My main purpose for getting insurance is peace of mind. I don’t want to have any financial implications holding me back from giving Brownie any medical attention he needs.
- Dogs bite. And when they do, are you prepared to handle it? Who’s at fault? Maybe this post can help to prevent another dog from being bit. Two lessons I learned from Brownie getting bit.
Any additional ideas? Just leave me a comment.

I had a dog named Brownie when I was a kid… we gave him away when we moved
We now have a happy pomeranian! Doggie insurance is a no no… have an emergency fund instead.
AmDollar, Sorry to hear that about Brownie. I can’t imagine how horrible it must’ve been to lose your dog.
I’m curious as to why you think Doggie insurance is a no-no. I’m definitely on the fence on this one…

I love the picture! I had a yellow lab for a while, great family pet (she lives with the Ex)…our beagle and sheppard mix put us out a pretty penny, but they’re worth it.
Great list, Lil’ Duck is enough for about 10 dogs right now but eventually we’ll have one ;). Our list is up if you’d like to look… have a great day!
The answer to number 1?
Crate the dog if it is appropriate and have kids to clean up the poop
Jersey girl - No doubt! They are worth every penny.
MamaDuck, Just left a quack on your blog.
Josh, Haha! Unfortunately, I have no kids…cleaning up a stinky, messy crate first thing in the morning is not my favorite activity…So, I have devised an outside area where I tie Brownie up if he has a serious bout with diarrhea again…
Lawd I’m so glad Precious has never had the runs. She’s white and she HATES being outside. Imagine what I would have to go through. Ewww!
Brownie’s a cutie!
I also think doggie insurance is a no-no. I have a separate account to pay for vet visits and emergencies. MAJOR (read: life threatening) accidents or illnesses will be addressed accordingly. Depending on her quality of life after such event, I’d rather put her to sleep than to sustain her life for my own selfish reasons.
SingleMa, it’s no fun. Definitely does not set the best tone for the rest of the day. But you know, one advantage of white, at least you can tell where the dirt is…
I’ll have to reconsider the pet insurance when renewal time comes along…
