If You Get Rid Of Your Car With Extended Warranty, You’ll Want To Read This…

31 Jul

If you had/have a car with extended warranty, and you get rid of it before the warranty runs out, did you know you are entitled to a pro-rated refund?  In most cases that is.  I can’t speak for all warranty contracts since they differ, especially when you go with one provided by the Automotive Company vs. a private insuring company.

Typically, the process to get your money back requires you to send a letter to the insuring company, including a proof of title change, in most cases this is a copy of the title that you sign off on to change owners, along with details on the VIN.  All this info should be in the booklet you got with your warranty.

I just got my check for $89.00!  I had about 7 months of extended warranty left when I got rid of my old car.  Although I did get rid of my car close to a year ago!  Hey, I’m not complaining.

How To Make the Most of Your Visit To Hawaii…On the Cheap

31 Jul

Hawaii from spaceThis post has to deal mainly with the Island of Oahu, but some of it may be applicable to other islands as well.  I’ll try to point out some of the sights, sounds, and tastes you have to check out while in Oahu…on the cheap…for the most part anyway.

Shopping

  • Swap Meet:  Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesday @ the Aloha Stadium.  For the best deals, as long as you don’t care about brand names, this is the place to shop.  Never buy based on first price, haggling required!  You might even find a deal like 10 shirts for $10.  It can be a little hot on somedays, so bring water and drinks, unless you want to buy inflated drinks at the meet.
  • Kahala Mall, Pearlridge, and Waikele Outlet:  Ala Moana and Waikiki shops get all the press, but there are other malls on Oahu.  Kahala is more of an upscale, laid back mall catered to locals.  Lots of small specialty shops.  Pearlridge, is a mixed crowd type of mall, lots of youngins choose Pearlridge because of games and movies.  Waikele outlet is great for good deals, just be prepared to deal with traffic.
  • Costco for Macadamia Nuts:  Almost everyone brings back Macadamia Nuts from Hawaii…there’s no place cheaper than Costco.

What Motivates Me?

31 Jul

When I was told my site was completely messed up this past Saturday, I panicked.  “Oh no!  My site is messed up!”  I rushed to find out what was wrong.  Lo and Behold, I confirmed my page didn’t display properly on Safari.  (Nifty tool)  First thoughts that ran through my mind, “All that work, and maybe I have to revert back to scratch.”  Luckily, I found out that one of the files on my blog was messed up by me.  I’m not sure where, but I just replaced it, and just like magic, everything displayed properly.  Tuned it up a bit, being more careful, and everything is back to normal.

This led me to the question, “Why can’t I treat everything in my life like this site?”  For example, WORK.

Here’s a Question For You: $50k To Spend or $25k To Invest

30 Jul

Let’s see how financially responsible you are.  If you had the choice between:

  • $50,000 to spend freely, but none of it can be used on something that can be sold or saved.  For example, a vacation, one time trip around the world, etc.  Must be spent within 30 days.

OR

  • $25,000 to save and invest.  You can’t spend any of this for at least 10 years.

Working from home: What dollar value would you put on it?

Welcome Readers From AllFinancialMatters!

29 Jul

It’s an honor to be selected as the 44th Blog Of the Week by JLP.  To be 100% honest, I really was hoping that one day I could be his blog of the week.  Yes! :)

I’d like to welcome you by just starting off by sharing a little about myself.  Like my About Freedumb page discusses in more detail, I’m an almost 30 male anonymous personal finance blogger. I talk about my mistakes and successes. I would like to learn about yours. I hope we can help each other achieve financial freedom…and have some fun along the way!  Yeah, corny, but hey…I try to sound somewhat professional.  *I can already hear the giggles*  At the sametime, I also try to make this blog as personal as personal finance gets minus the risque.

I’ve been blogging for close to 7 months now, and it’s been a great experience.  With that, on to the good stuff…well, relative to other things I’ve written.  I’m going to put a list of posts I’ve written that might be interesting.  Please, please comment and criticize.  That’s the beauty of blogging!

Frugal Dog Home Remedies, Tips, and Tricks (Might Apply To Humans As Well)

29 Jul

Like humans, dogs have issues with their health…sometimes they are just daily occurances like headaches, allergies, upset stomach, etc.  Unfortunately, they can’t tell us.  That’s why you know your dog best, and the decision to go to the vet or not, is best made by you.  Some telltale signs that a trip to the vet would be good are blood, lethargy, uncharacteristic behavior, excessive/obsessive licking/scratching, limps, and bumps.  That’s all I can think of for now, but I’m sure there are others.

This post is about some neat home remedies, tips, and tricks I’ve learned since I started raising my dog Brownie.  And I consider them all “frugal” because they are generally a lot cheaper than getting a prescription or getting them from a pet store.  Have a look…share yours!

WARNING: Phishing – Paypal.com – I’m Getting Sick and Tired Of This Crap!

28 Jul

There’s a criminal person with malicious intent behind each one of these emails sent out, and it makes me sick.  I wish I could really hear about some of these people after they are caught…I’m curious.  Who are they?  Do they plan criminal activities everyday?  Are they mob-related?  Are they techy punk kids trying to make a quick buck?  I’m assuming had someone done this from most countries they would be caught fairly quickly.  Ahh….

What’s Your Take On Panhandlers? How About Street Performers?

28 Jul

Just went down to get coffee, and on my way out, a woman in what looks to be her late 30′s asks me for a couple bucks because she wants to buy food.  A couple bucks?!?  I know inflation is the trend right now, but come on, what happened to asking for some “spare change”?

I ended up giving her my $0.29 cents of change I had in my hand.  I actually rarely give to panhandlers who ask for money.  I generally feel more inclined to give when they don’t come up to me.

And did you hear about the panhandlers/street performers-entertainers in places like the San Francisco can make around $40k–tax free!  Maybe I should consider a switch in profession.  Although I have to admit, I did see some pretty entertaining stuff in Santa Monica…One performing group must have took in about $150.00 considering the amount of people watching.  I’ll admit I gave him a dollar.

Short Update On My GMAC Account…

27 Jul

applied for a GMAC account on July 20, and I sent back their signature card yesterday, July 26.  My account is already funded as well.  So far, the experience with GMAC has been pleasantly simple and straightforward.  I like it.  I’ll let you know when I receive the ATM card, checks, and how long a transfer takes.
